## Getting started with image recognition

Image recognition can add a lot of value to your business processes, from quality control to automating human perception. But how do you know if it works for your situation, without investing heavily upfront?

**That’s why Pegamento developed the Vision Engine.**

## What is the Vision Engine?

The Vision Engine is a flexible building block for image recognition applications. Instead of developing everything from scratch, we use standardized and reusable modules for:

## Fish on Wheels: from innovation to Guinness World Record

Our love for image recognition goes beyond industrial applications. In 2025, Pegamento set an official Guinness World Record with **Fish on Wheels,** a fish in a self-driving vehicle driven by image recognition.

During the broadcast of _Lo Show dei Record_ in Italy, with the help of our software, ‘Blub’ covered 12.28 meters in one minute, setting Pegamento the world record for the “longest distance covered by a fish in a self-driving land-based vehicle.”

This project, once started as an internal experiment, proves that image recognition is not only powerful, but can also be applied surprisingly creatively.

**For **Amstelveld Bakery**, Vision Engine detects abnormal buns and automatically controls the reject belt.

**With AI and anomaly detection, we support operators in opening bridges safely. The Vision Engine recognizes objects on the bridge deck and warns immediately.

**For **Ferring Pharmaceuticals**, we developed an app that uses a simple video to automatically calculate a person’s height for correct dosing of growth hormone.

- **Label recognition in printing
**For customers with personalized packaging, Vision Engine recognizes the right label at high speed with classic feature matching and links it to the order information.
